WICHITA, Kan. — Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland congratulates Tatum H. for becoming a Gold Award Girl Scout, a designation she earned by creating an informative video about body positivity, self-esteem, mental health and how important it is to be aware of those issues.
The Gold Award is the mark of the truly remarkable — earned by a high school Girl Scout who works to address an issue she’s passionate about in a way that produces meaningful and lasting change. Whether it’s on a local, national, or global level, Gold Award Girl Scouts provide innovative solutions to significant challenges.
“Gold Award Girl Scouts don’t just change the world for the better, they change it for good — and Tatum embodies everything this achievement stands for," said Rolinda Sample, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland. “Tatum addressed an issue that’s important to her — body positivity and self-confidence — for her Gold Award, and we congratulate her on this momentous accomplishment.”
After struggling with her own mental health troubles due to self-esteem and body dysmorphia, Tatum knew that she wanted to help her peers tackle those issues and thoughts through her Gold Award project. Tatum created a short film titled “You Are Enough” to show the importance of having positive body image and how it can affect your mental health.
Tatum wrote the script, produced and edited film. She covered her own journey with body positivity and how it has affected her self-esteem and confidence. In the film, she covers the steps she took to improve her self-esteem and how she took her own worries into her hands.
Tatum’s video was shared to the Maize Career Academy, on YouTube, in the Fusion Magazine produced by Maize Media, shared with students in her school district and with fellow Girl Scout troops to teach them about how they can improve their confidence, self-esteem and worries related to body positivity.
“My goal was to help increase confidence in my peers,” Tatum said. “Teaching fellow students and Girl Scouts ways to help their self-esteem and confidence is a passion of mine and I hope this video can help others in the future.”
