What is Girl Scouts?
Girl Scouts is more than an activity — it’s a Movement dedicated to building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.
Why do girls love being Girl Scouts?
Girl Scouts is a way of life that brings out the best in your girl, even in the most challenging of times. While they’re learning about STEM, the outdoors, entrepreneurship and important life skills, Girl Scouts are also discovering new ways to make their family and community stronger, kinder and better for everyone.
How does it work? What’s a “troop”?
Groups of Girl Scouts, called troops, typically meet weekly or bi-weekly for an hour or two. Guided by adult volunteers, troop members choose the hands-on activities and projects that excite them, try new things and cheer each other on. Together, they earn badges to reflect their successes and show the world what they’re made of.
What’s the goal?
Making sure girls are given the opportunity to reach their full potential by developing values and skills that will lead them to happier lives.
When can I get started?
If your girl is ready to let her best self shine and start creating the world she wants to see, she’s ready to be a Girl Scout today. A Girl Scout membership is $40. A Girl Scout membership year starts on October 1 and lasts until September 30 of the following year, but you can get started early by joining or renewing your membership in April each year. During extended year, girls can join in April for $50 and their membership will run through September of the next calendar year.
What age can my girl join Girl Scouts?
Girls can join when they are five-years-old and in kindergarten. Girl Scouts can join at any age between kindergarten and 12th grade.
What are the costs?
The Girl Scout membership fee is $40 and lasts through September 30, 2024. During extended year registration which begins in April, the membership fee is $50 and lasts through September 30, 2025. There may be additional fees depending what your troop or girl decides to participate in. For example: troop dues, uniforms, camps and events. Depending on the camp, event or activity, prices can range from $5 for something like a movie night to $200+ for a week-long camp or out-of-area excursion! For troop uniforms and events, additional funds can be requested through our Council Cares application and our Campership application.
However, most additional expenses can be paid for with the funds your girl earns during the Product Program sales. Financial assistance is also available for memberships to those who qualify.
*Purchase of a membership is non-refundable and non-transferable. Non-transferable refers to memberships being unable to transfer from person-to-person. Memberships can transfer to a different Girl Scout council if necessary.
