Salina, Kan. — Inspired by her love of singing and performing, Lexi Foos created a Girl Scout Gold Award project that brought children back to the center of church life. Lexi organized and directed a Children’s Christmas Program at Trinity Lutheran Church in Salina, Kansas to help re-energize youth involvement and create a welcoming environment where kids could feel they belonged.
Throughout her project, Lexi spent time planning the program, recruiting volunteers, writing the script, coordinating costumes and music, and leading rehearsals with the children. She also helped promote the program by having participants walk in Salina’s Parade of Lights and hand out invitations to the community.
The Christmas Eve performance drew a large audience and was livestreamed so friends and family could watch from anywhere. Through the experience, the children built confidence in public speaking, learned teamwork and commitment, and formed lasting friendships that strengthened youth engagement and community connection within her church.
Lexi ensured success for future program directors by creating a manual for them to follow as they plan and implement the next Christmas program.
