Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland launching new Girls Who Code troops

Girls Who Code, GSKH

We're excited to announce the launch of two, new specialty Girl Scout troops: Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland Girls Who Code!

These two troops will be for girls in fourth through eighth grades (Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts) and will combine Girls Who Code programming with Girl Scouts' new "Think Like a Programmer" Journey. Starting after Labor Day and extending through the spring of 2018, girls in these troops will have a special opportunity to meet on the Wichita State University campus in the Experimental Engineering building as they:

  • Participate in leadership activities
  • Build positive self-esteem
  • Discover fun, hands-on coding projects
  • Learn practical computer skills
  • Work together as a team and make new friends
  • Explore STEM and future career opportunities

Why does it matter?

In middle school, 74 percent of girls express interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), but when choosing a college major, only 3 percent of high school girls select computer science.

Does your girl love apps on her phone, get excited about 3D printing, and love to learn and make new friends? These supportive, new troops may be the perfect fit!

How to participate

To become a member of one of these troops, please fill out the form and scan or return it to info@gskh.org, mail it, or bring it to our office at 360 Lexington Road, Wichita, KS 67218. Space is very limited, and troop participation is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Any Girl Scout in fourth through eighth grade can participate. Not a Girl Scout yet? No worries. When you fill out the form, Girl Scout staff members will contact you with additional details and arrange for payment of a $25 annual Girl Scout membership fee.
