Are you ready to take action to help save the bees? Or how would you like to make some "galaxy slime" and learn about the many Girl Scout alumnae who've traveled to space?

Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland is proud to be hosting activities at this year's Wichita Riverfest, giving children and families an opportunity to enjoy hands-on activities focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). With Riverfest buttons, families can enjoy these fun activities with Girl Scouts for free:

  • 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 2 - Look for the Girl Scouts' G.I.R.L. float in the Riverfest parade! Review the map of the parade route to plan where you will scout out the fun.
  • Noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 4 - Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland is hosting "Scouts in Space" activities in Riverfest's STEAM City, which will be on Main Street by the Wichita Public Liibrary. Did you know the first woman to spacewalk was a Girl Scout? Or that 40 of the first 114 space missions included Girl Scout alumnae? Join us in making some galaxy slime, learn about magnetism in space, and find out more about the women who have traveled to space.
  • 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 6 - It's Kids Day at Riverfest! Make sure to stop by Girl Scouts' "Bee Happy" Riverfest booth on the south side of the Kids Corner (No. 4 area on the map)! Families can see a live bee hive, plant bee-friendly wildflower seeds to take with them, sample different types of honey, and learn how pollination affects the flavor of the honey. The food court will be open, so BUZZ on over!
  • 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 6 - Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland is sponsoring Jenny Wood's "Don't Let Them Get In Your Head" concert focusing on anti-bullying! The concert will be in the Redguard Stage area.
