Thursday, Aug. 10 is National S’mores Day, and to celebrate, the public is invited to make their own tasty s'mores with Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland during FREE events in Wichita, Emporia, Liberal and Hays! During these come-and-go events, girls and their families can also enjoy hot dogs, fun activities, and learn more about how G.I.R.L.s (Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, Leaders) lead the way in Girl Scouts.
Council staff will be on hand at the National S’mores Day events to help girls sign up for Girl Scouts. Those interested in becoming a volunteer are also encouraged to attend. There are volunteer opportunities to fit any schedule, and the Girl Scouts’ new Volunteer Toolkit has simple online tools that make it easier than ever to be a Girl Scout leader!
S'more Fun Fact
S'mores have long been a staple around the campfire, but did you know this delicious treat is rooted in Girl Scout history? That's right! The recipe for a s'more dates back to the 1925 Girl Scout Leader magazine and the 1927 Girl Scouts of the USA handbook, “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts,” which featured a "Some More" recipe.
