Have you experienced an incredible adventure in Girl Scouts, like a unique camping experience, a service project with your friends that impacted your community, or even a special trip to some place you've never been before? If so, we want to hear from you.
Right now, we're inviting new girls to join Girl Scouts, and as the word spreads, who better to describe the fun in Girl Scouting than current Girl Scouts themselves?! We're looking for girls who would like to write an op-ed or a letter to the editor about their own incredible Girl Scout experience. An op-ed is a piece in a newspaper or magazine that presents the opinion of its writer -- someone who is not employed by the newspaper or magazine.
Girls can write what they like best about Girl Scouts, what they've learned, and what it's like being a member of the largest girl-led organization in the world! Write about what makes Girl Scouts fun for you. You could also describe how you earned a special Girl Scout award or badge.
Here is a Sample Op-Ed for girls to review to get ideas. Remember, this is just an example; we want you to share YOUR story! Contact your local newspaper to find out how you can submit your op-ed or letter to the editor. Once you've submitted it, then share it with us by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We'll pick at least one to feature in the upcoming Shout Out newsletter that mails to all members across the council! To be considered for the Shout Out newsletter, share yours with us by Sept. 1. Then, on Oct. 1, we'll also select at least one girl writer to receive a gift pack of Girl Scout merchandise.
