Junior Girl Scouts in Parsons worked together to make their goal of helping disaster victims a reality!
To earn their Bronze
Award, the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn, the girls
in Troop 70310 measured fabric, cut, pinned, ironed and sewed 30
pillowcases that they donated to the American Red Cross for comfort
kits, which are handed out to people during times of emergency.
Red Cross volunteer Darlene Tower took the girls on a tour of the Red Cross office in Parsons and explained how different trailers are sent out to different kinds of emergencies, according to Tara Clevenger, one of the leaders of Troop 70310. Tower also talked to them about everything that goes in a comfort kit and showed the girls the pillows that will be used with the pillowcases the girls made. The girls learned about different types of disasters the local Red Cross Chapter responds to.
Members of Troop 70310 include: Hanah Lee, Ashlynn Smith, Marlee Mikel, Charis McSherry, Elyse Clevenger and Isabel Clevenger, with Troop Leaders Tara Clevenger, Emalee Mikel and Brenda Lee.
