Junior Girl Scouts from across northwest Kansas, as well as Garden City and Salina, have enjoyed some incredible outdoor adventures that will be remembered for years to come!
This month, 65 girls and 37 adults traveled to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado to complete the final piece of their three-part campout that started in 2014. These Girl Scouts first had to attend campouts in Ellis last year and in Atwood this year before they could attend the final campout: an exciting excursion to the Rocky Mountains!
Trekking up the mountains with 20 vehicles and trailers in tow, the girls and adults set up camp at Glacier Basin Campground and then enjoyed exploring the great outdoors. Many participated in the Junior Ranger program available at the National Park, while others went to the tundra and hiked to the many lakes and waterfalls. The girls planned their meals, cooked, cleaned their dishes, and gained knowledge on "Leave No Trace Behind" camping.
Sponsored by Service Unit 112, with volunteer trainers from Service Units 109, 104, 102, and 101, this campout is hosted every other year to allow Junior Girl Scouts the opportunity to connect with wildlife, the outdoors, and then each other!
